Legacy Application Software
The Aldridge Company for many years specialized in the development and marketing of microcomputer software programs. These utility programs included PreCursor, a DOS based menu system and Tree86, a file management tool. The company developed low level products such as a ROM BIOS cache, Cache86, used in high performance computers and high level products such as Cabin Pro which offered a wide array of multimedia applications.
These DOS based software products are still available and are most useful for computers running legacy operating systems up to Windows98.
Cache86 is a disk cache program. A cache is a section of memory that is set aside to temporarily store data. Cache86 establishes such a memory cache. Then when a program requests data, Cache86 checks the cache first and if the data is present, it is transferred directly to the program. This memory to memory transfer is much faster than rereading the hard disk each time.
PreCursor is a programmable DOS based menu system used to directly open DOS or Windows applications. PreCursor features single key access to programs, password security, computer usage tracking and reports, ID validation, screen blanking, multiple menu levels, and tree-based file management utilities. Additional features include mouse support, user help files, dialog boxes, API interface, and color configuration.
Tree86 is the slickest down and dirty utility you could find for DOS-based computer work. Its efficiency and intelligence offers support for drives of virtually any size and number.
Cabin PRO is a multimedia suite consisting of file management, image viewing and conversion, thumbnail creation, screen capture, slide show, and multimedia file playing. Using virtual data, PRO indexes both your on-line and off-line data.
Pro Audio CD Player was a CD Player for pre-Windows 98 computers. It was self contained, configurable, small in size, with low CPU usage. It is no longer available.
